Orbiton

Orbiton is a 3D action game made in Godot where the player orbits around a central ‘boss’ enemy while dodging their projectiles and firing back. The game was made over the span of 5 days in a team of 6 people.

The character design, character art and animations were made by me. I also helped with programming some features, such as the orbital bullet feedforward. Full list of contributors on the game’s page.

I got some good practice making some cartoony-looking character designs and models. It was quite a challenge to make a 3D mecha model for the enemy, but I believe it worked out well.

Character designs

The character designs were made to be opposites to each other in colors and angles to accentuate the feeling of conflict. In general we wanted an art style that would be cartoony and low in detail, with readable silhouettes.

A sense of scale and power was also important, the player is small and only has a space suit and a rifle equipped, while the enemy is a gigantic mech with armor and many lasers.
